Aerial attack lifts W&J to victory
Gino Rometo threw five touchdown passes Saturday, and Tim McNerney and Jordan Roycroft had three TDs apiece to lead Washington & Jefferson to a 54-41 victory over Franklin and Marshall in the ECAC Division III Southwest Bowl.
Rometo finished 24 for 30 for 377 yards; he threw four TD passes in the first half, as W&J (9-2) built a 40-21 halftime lead. Roycroft finished with 12 catches for 207 yards and three scores.
On the ground, McNerney carried 24 times for 147 yards and three scores, breaking a 69-yard run in the second quarter to give W&J the lead for good, 21-14.
John Harrison was 44 for 57 for 422 yards and five touchdowns for Franklin & Marshall (6-5).
Football Championship Subdivision
Duquesne 37, Bryant 29 — Quarterback Sean Patterson was involved in four touchdowns — two passing, one rushing and one receiving — to help Duquesne (7-4, 5-3) past Bryant (7-4, 4-4) in a Northeast Conference game.
Larry McCoy rushed for 160 yards for the Dukes and finished the season with 1,291. Patterson ran for a 56-yard score to put the Dukes ahead, 10-8, in the first quarter. Sixteen seconds later, he threw a 27-yard TD pass to Sean Bunevich.
In the third quarter, Patterson threw a 48-yard TD pass to Dave Williams. In the fourth, Patterson caught a 26-yard TD pass from halfback Bill Bair.
Central Connecticut State 23, St. Francis (Pa.) 13 — Trailing by 23 in the fourth quarter, St. Francis (1-10, 1-7) scored twice to make it close in a season-ending NEC loss to Central Connecticut State (8-3, 7-1).
Dan Conley and Jude Yearwood scored on 1-yard runs.
