Ageless Rod sued over scrubbed tour
Rocker Rod Stewart is being sued by music promoters over a Latin American tour that never took place, Celebrity Justice reported Friday.
Stewart and his associates are accused in the lawsuit of taking a $780,000 advance for a 2002 tour that would have gone to Brazil, Mexico and Puerto Rico but then backing out without returning the money.
"We've been accused in the lawsuit of misrepresentation, of fraud, of intentional interference," said Stewart lawyer Skip Miller. "And I don't think the evidence you're going to hear is going to support any of those claims."
In a countersuit, Stewart says the promoters didn't make the full payments agreed upon, and he pulled out of the agreement and kept the deposit after allowing them extra time to come up with all the money, Miller said.
The promoters say they lost clients after Stewart announced plans for a similar tour through different promoters. The suit against Stewart seeks more than $2 million.
