People sensitive to air pollution should avoid outdoor activity on Thursday.
Warm temperatures, afternoon sunshine and stagnant air, are forecast to result in high levels of soot and ozone tomorrow, prompting the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to issue an Air Quality Action Day for Western Pennsylvania, the 15th this year.
Asthmatics, the elderly and children should avoid prolonged or extended outdoor activity because of the risk of breathing problems. Everyone is asked to refrain from refueling vehicles and mowing lawns during the middle of the day, to use public transportation or share rides, and to conserve energy to help reduce pollution.
