Alcoa names new officers

Alcoa Inc. appointed several new officers, naming Robert S. Hughes executive vice president, Alcoa, and group president, Alcoa Allied Products, and Joseph C. Muscari, vice president, Alcoa, and group president Asia, Latin America and environment, health and safety. Hughes has held a variety of sales, marketing, manufacturing and business unit management positions with Alcoa during his career. Muscari held a series of manufacturing, financial, business unit and corporate management positions, including president of Alcoa Asia.

In other changes, G. John Pizzey is executive vice president, Alcoa, and group president, primary products. He had been vice president, Alcoa, and group president, primary products.

Named as vice presidents were: Franklin L. Feder, vice president, analysis and planning, he most recently was assistant controller, financial analysis and planning; Mario Longhi Filho, vice president, Alcoa and president, Alcoa Wheel and Forged Products, he most recently was vice president and general manager of Alcoa Wheels International, based in Cleveland;

Veronica M. Hagen, vice president, Alcoa and president, North American Extrusions, she had been president, Alcoa Engineered Products; A. Hamish Petrie, vice president and global director, Human Resources, Petrie's most recent post was global director, Human Resources; Bernt Reitan, vice president, Alcoa and president, Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals, Reitan's most recent position was president, Alcoa World Chemicals;

William F. Christopher, executive vice president for Alcoa Business System, Customer and Quality, Christopher's most recent assignment was president of Alcoa Forged Products; John W. Collins III, executive vice president, Science and Technology, Collins has been the president of several Alcoa businesses, most recently sheet, plate and foil;

Richard B. Kelson, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Kelson has served in several corporate management positions in the legal, and environment, health and safety organizations; and Paul D. Thomas, vice president, Alcoa and president, Alcoa Mill Products. His most recent position was vice president, Alcoa and president, North American Extrusions.

BANKING/FINANCE

Great American Federal named William J. King senior commercial loan officer in its commercial lending department. King has 18 years' experience in the financial services industry and most recently was vice president and commercial loan officer at First International Bank in Pittsburgh. Before that, King was an assistant vice president in the middle market banking department of Mellon Bank.

Mellon Financial Corp. named Gary J. Schwager vice president and portfolio manager in Mellon Private Asset Management's private equity group in Pittsburgh. He joins the group from Russell/Mellon Analytical Services, where he was a vice president and senior investment consultant.

The Fragasso Group Inc. of Pittsburgh appointed as officers: Deborah Sales, vice president of the firm and the downtown office branch manager; Diana Schroeder, corporate secretary and administrative manager; Andrei Voicu, vice president and director, portfolio manager; and Michael Fertig, vice president and South Hills office branch manager.

LEGAL

Morgan, Lewis & Brockius hired as associates W. Ryan Davis in the business and finance practice group; Abhijat Parikh in the intellectual property-patent practice group; and Jennifer E. Schlagle in the litigation practice group.

John E. Lyncheski was appointed chair of the labor, OSHA and human resources substantive law committee of the American Health Lawyers Association. Lyncheski chairs the firm's health care practice group and is the senior director in its labor & employment group.

ADVERTISING/PR

Debbie Cavrak was named an account executive at Elisco Advertising. She has six years' agency and marketing experience and most recently worked as a graphics supervisor at Douglas Laboratories.

OTHER

The Pittsburgh Opera board of directors named H. Woodruff Turner president of the board; Joseph A. Massaro, immediate past president; Kenneth S. Brand, treasurer; Robert C. Denove, assistant treasurer; Dr. Freddie Fu, board member; and well-known diva Renata Scotto, honorary board member.

Bradley D. Wolf joined Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control Inc. as executive vice president, operations. Wolf was vice president and general manager of SMS DeMag Inc.'s iron and steelmaking division in Pittsburgh.
