Alle-Kiski Male Athlete of the Week
Notable: The pitcher/outfielder knocked in the game-winning run in three consecutive Raiders’ victories, including a bases-clearing double against Vincentian.
Do you believe some people are programmed to succeed in pressure situations?
I do think some people by nature have something else that makes them cool under fire. I’ve always been pretty clutch and had some game-winning hits over the years. I like seeing what the pitcher is throwing and go up and do whatever I can to drive in that run, whether it’s looking for a certain pitch or hitting to the opposite field. If that situation is there to drive in the winning run, I want to come to the plate with that chance.
How different has it been since your teammate, Gus Benusa, got drafted into the pros last year?
Actually, me and a few of the guys were talking about that today. We had Gus last year, and we always knew he would get a big hit or a home run and he’d be able to carry us. But this year, we’re actually more solid 1 through 9 than we were in the past. We were a pretty tight unit (before), but losing Gus made us realize we had to all step up as a team if we want to score runs and win games.
