The Deer Lakes hockey team’s scoring surge continued Monday night.
Zack Luniewski scored four goals and added three assists, leading the Lancers (8-1) to a 10-1 victory over Bishop McCort (4-4).
PIHL scoring leader Mitchell Rupprecht had two goals and four assists for Deer Lakes, which reached double digits in goals for the third straight game. Vincent Casale had two goals and two assists.
Alex Beswick and Jonathan Merlo also scored for Deer Lakes, and Jonathan Lang made 19 saves.
Plum 6, Chartiers Valley 3 — David Stonebraker had a hat trick, and Nolan Puhala added two goals to lead Plum (2-5) to a Class AA victory over Chartiers Valley (1-7).
Puhala’s two first-period goals helped the Mustangs rally from an early 1-0 deficit, and Stonebraker tallied two insurance goals in the final minute of the third period. Plum snapped a five-game losing streak.
The Apollo-Ridge School Board hired John Kinnamon on Monday as the district’s high school softball coach.
Kinnamon, 49, of Vandergrift said he has about a decade of experience coaching in various area recreational and travel softball leagues.
He participated in Kiski Area’s football and track and field programs as a student in the early 1980s.
Kinnamon replaces Jim Ferguson, who resigned in September after two seasons.
