Plum 6, Chartiers Valley 3 — David Stonebraker had a hat trick, and Nolan Puhala added two goals to lead Plum (2-5) to a Class AA victory over Chartiers Valley (1-7).

Puhala’s two first-period goals helped the Mustangs rally from an early 1-0 deficit, and Stonebraker tallied two insurance goals in the final minute of the third period. Plum snapped a five-game losing streak.

The Apollo-Ridge School Board hired John Kinnamon on Monday as the district’s high school softball coach.

Kinnamon, 49, of Vandergrift said he has about a decade of experience coaching in various area recreational and travel softball leagues.

He participated in Kiski Area’s football and track and field programs as a student in the early 1980s.

Kinnamon replaces Jim Ferguson, who resigned in September after two seasons.
