ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP: Supervisors on Monday night approved a new, five-year contract with its public works department workers that calls for annual raises of 4 percent.
The current hourly wage of $14.07 will increase to $17.09 by the end of the contract, which is retroactive to Feb. 1 and runs through Jan. 31, 2006.
All seven public works employees receive the same rate.
The supervisors also approved a site for a new public works department garage, pending approval of Gannett-Fleming, an environmental consulting firm.
The site is at the Air Products building along Philips Lane and White Cloud Road.
The property, which will cost $50,000, includes five acres and existing buildings.
All public works equipment will be stored indoors once renovations are completed to the Air Products building.
The current public works facility dates back to 1927 and will be demolished to make room for a storage shed for cinders and salt.

Supervisors have scheduled a public hearing and a board vote today on the proposed shopping center between Routes 56 and 356 behind the Hyde Park Plaza.
The meeting will be at 2:30 p.m. at the community building off of School Road.
The board approved the development of the Tredway River Park and Trail, named in honor of the late Wynn and Clara Tredway, who donated land to the township several years ago.
The park will begin at Garvers Ferry Road and McKane Hollow and run south of River Forest Country Club along the Allegheny River.
The trail will continue for 2-1/2 miles south to the Braeburn section of Lower Burrell.
Visitors will enjoy amenities such as an overlook of the river, picnic tables, and 2-1/2 miles of hiking and biking trails in which no motorized vehicles will be allowed.
There also will be a four-acre meadow at the beginning of the trail, and a fishing dock.
Jim Lombardo, who is with the state Department of Commerce and Economic Development, will be guest speaker.
He will offer insight on the progress and goals of the township' long-range plan.
