Construction is scheduled to begin today on the new $6.28 million Apollo Bridge that will carry Route 66 over the Kiskimientas River.

The new bridge will be built beside the existing bridge and traffic will be maintained on the current bridge, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Traffic restrictions will be minimal until work begins next year on the roadway approaches.

The new bridge will have a pre-stressed I-beam bridge with a concrete deck, and also improved drainage and new roadway approaches.

Brayman Construction Co. of Saxonburg, Butler County, is the prime contractor for the project.
