This is in response to the June 21 letter from David H. Samuel, titled “Cross dilemma,” regarding the cross at the site of the Shanksville memorial. I am a bit put out that Mr. Samuel would choose to be so pathetically trivial in complaining about a cross being erected. True, maybe not every passenger was of the Christian faith. But, obviously, the victims’ family members were not offended; otherwise, we would have heard from them. I’m sure they took the gesture as was intended – a thoughtful remembrance. A cross is decidedly respectful of the somber and reflective nature of the memorial. It certainly is better than the “X”-marks-the-spot Samuel desires. Or maybe he should have suggested a big bull’s-eye so the terrorists could try again for the same spot! Lynne G. Jack Penn Township
