Former Argentine military dictator General Jorge Rafael Videla suffered a stroke and has been hospitalized, La Nacion newspaper reported Saturday.

The 79-year-old Videla ruled Argentina for the first six years of the 1976-1983 dictatorship.

Also known as the "Dirty War," the dictatorship in Argentina is alleged to have presided over the deaths of some 30,000 people.
