FORD CITY - A local convenience store was apparently the target of armed robbers late last night, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. Emergency dispatchers told police by radio that two armed men robbed Choice Discount Cigarette Outlet along Fifth Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, leaving the scene on foot. Officers from the Ford City Police Department and several state police troopers were on the scene shortly thereafter, scouring the area with flashlights. Employees from the store, including the young woman who was running the register, refused comment last night, citing store policy. Thieves scattered items from the front counter on the floor and apparently dropped a few dollars and some change as they fled, including some change on the sidewalk, which may have indicated which way they fled. Police last night were unable to release any information regarding the robbery.
