An Arnold man will serve up to three years in prison for selling heroin out of an apartment he shared with two young children.

Shawn Michael Layhew, 35, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to possession with intent to deliver drugs, conspiracy and child endangerment charges following his arrest last summer outside an Arnold apartment building.

Police were watching a suspected drug house in Arnold on June 27 when Layhew was pulled over on a routine traffic stop, according to court records,

During questioning, police said, Layhew admitted he served as a jitney driver for customers at the drug house and that he transported heroin to dealers. Police found 40 bags of heroin in the car, officials said.

A search of Layhew's home, which he shared with his live-in girlfriend and two children, turned up 10 bricks of heroin, which had been divided into nearly 500 stamp bags of the drug, and drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

In a brief court hearing, Layhew pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Westmoreland County Judge John Blahovec to serve three to six years in prison.

Layhew's girlfriend, Debra Ann Landis, 31, pleaded guilty in September to a charge of drug delivery and two counts of child endangerment. Landis was sentenced by Blahovec to serve three to 12 months in jail and to attend parenting classes.
