A Westmoreland County jury Wednesday convicted an Arnold man of weapons and trespassing charges stemming from an incident last year in which a woman was accidentally shot.

Ricardo Owens, 43, of 704 Fourth Ave. was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm and criminal trespass after less than two days of testimony before Judge John Blahovec.

Arnold police charged Owens last August after he was apprehended by Greensburg police in a city apartment. Arnold police issued a warrant for his arrest after Kayla Hoffman, 26, of Arnold was shot in the left forearm June 5 in a residence at 1507 Leishman Ave., according to court papers.

Hoffman was found a few blocks away along Locust Street in New Kensington.

Acting on a tip, Greensburg police found Owens in an apartment at Autumn Brook Apartments, formerly New Salem Acres.

At the time of his arrest, police said, Owens was on the telephone, discussing his surrender with a county sheriff's deputy.

Owens originally also faced charges of burglary and carrying a firearm without a license. The burglary charge was withdrawn, and the second charge was dismissed, court records show.
