Police arrested a North Carolina teenager last night on charges of fatally shooting a Mt. Oliver store clerk.
Eric D. Hancock, 16, of Greensboro, N.C., is in the Allegheny County Jail on robbery and homicide charges. He is suspected of killing Jamal Muzafar, 28, of Syria, at the A&E Deli Food Mart Sunday morning.
Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said investigators believe Hancock was visiting family with his mother in Pittsburgh for most or all of the summer. Police arrested him at a relative's home in Duquesne. He also stayed at a home on Frederick Street, near the deli, police said.
"He was aware of the store," Moffat said.
Moffatt would not say if police have recovered the murder weapon. Investigators are "enhancing" video surveillance taken from the store, he said.
The victim's family said Muzafar cooperated with the robber and was handing over the money when he was shot. Moffatt said the investigation "leads us to believe the robbery could have occurred without homicide."
