While the official opening of Asbury Villas won't occur until Dec. 5, members of the Asbury Heights Auxiliary wanted to make sure they could mark the time when it happens.

They donated $8,000 to purchase a clock for a clock tower for Asbury Villas, a planned assisted living facility on Asbury Heights' Mt. Lebanon campus.

Auxiliary members were honored for the donation at a recent clock tower dedication ceremony.

While plans for the building had included a clock tower, the cost of buying and installing a clock was several thousand dollars above the target budget.

Once the auxiliary heard the clock was to be eliminated from the plans, members donated the money needed.

Last year, the auxiliary donated $40,000 to Asbury Heights' capital campaign for the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Renovation Project.

Asbury Heights, Asbury Place and Asbury Villas provide residential care, day services and respite care for older adults. Services include independent living, assisted living, Alzheimer's care and nursing and rehabilitative care.

The campus is owned and operated by United Methodist Services for the Aging.

The Annie's Treasures Craft Show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Anne Ashley Memorial United Methodist Church in Munhall.

Handcrafted items will be available, along with Annie's famous roast beef sandwiches. Proceeds go toward missions of the church, at 334 22nd Ave.

West Allegheny schools

Patriotic posters made by West Allegheny Middle School students will be on display at Pittsburgh International Airport through Sunday.

Eighth-graders at the school painted the posters to commemorate the sacrifices of war veterans, and teacher Karen Kappeler arranged with the Allegheny County Airport Authority to have them displayed.

The posters supplemented a social studies lesson on Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, coordinated by teachers Ann Randour and Josh Bears.

The eighth-graders also are sending letters of appreciation to local Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.
