A kick-off meeting for the Allegheny Together program is set for June 25, at 7 p.m., at the Aspinwall borough building. The community development program aims to improve the business districts of towns. Aspinwall was selected to participate in the program along with Homestead this year.Councilman Joseph Warren said Aspinwall residents and business leaders will be able to play a role in the program’s implementation. Efforts will focus on the business district along Brilliant Avenue.”They want a lot of input from our community,” Warren said.Borough representatives met with Town Center Associates, a firm that works with the program, last month to begin planning. The borough’s participation will focus on specific areas of the community, Warren said.”For us personally, that’s going to be Commercial and Brilliant,” Warren said. “So there’s a lot of discussion about alleyways, walkways, needs that we have.”Warren said officials will recruit a roster of people to be involved with the program. The more people who get involved, the better it will be for the community, he said.”What we put into it is what we get out of it,” Warren said.Borough manager Ed Warchol said the borough will incur some costs beginning in the second year of the program. The borough will have to budget $5,000 for the program next year. The first year carries no cost.Officials will have to approve a resolution accepting the invitation into Allegheny Together at some point, Warchol said.
