Attorney Amanda Green was appointed Tuesday to the Allegheny County Council seat left vacant when Brenda Frazier resigned to run for the state House.

Green, 36, of Stanton Heights, will serve through 2009. She would need to seek re-election next year to finish Frazier's term, which ends Dec. 31, 2011.

Green, a Democrat and attorney with the United Steelworkers of America, said she is looking forward to speaking with her constituents about issues council will address.

"I'm just pleased someone of her caliber is interested," said Frazier, before yesterday's meeting. "I think she's a perfect fit."

Council also reappointed airport authority chairman Glenn Mahone.

Republicans on council criticized Mahone for poor management of the airport, while Democrats said he led the authority through a turbulent, post-9/11 period of airline bankruptcies.

Mahone was reappointed by a vote of 10-3-1, with Green abstaining. Councilman Chuck McCullough, who had opposed Mahone's reappointment, was absent.
