An auction house owner in Howell, Mich., who had planned to sell a vintage Ku Klux Klan robe on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, has reconsidered. Gary Gray, owner of Ole' Gray Nash Auction Gallery, said on a Detroit radio talk show Monday he has decided to delay the klan robe auction until Jan. 29 out of respect for King's birthday Jan. 15, reported the Lansing (Mich.) State Journal Tuesday. Gray said ever since he displayed the klan robe last Wednesday to advertise an item he expects will sell for $1,500 to $2,000 his business has turned into a circus. He said the robe had historical value -- not unlike the Nazi memorabilia he has also auctioned. After many people complained about the robe in the window, he moved it to another location in the auction house, however, he said dozens of people have stopped to have their picture taken with the robe. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
