Aumer's Sports Bar and Grill opens in East Huntingdon

Aumer's famous sausage sandwiches, which can be found at fairs and other temporary venues, have found a permanent home.

Aumer's Sports Bar and Grill is serving up selections of quality products that the Aumer family has been known to provide for generations.

Owner Ted Aumer's parents, Lore and Herb Aumer — both immigrants from Germany — moved to the area from Pittsburgh in the late 1940s, establishing a butcher shop in Scottdale that soon became a staple in the area.

Ted Aumer's wife, Shannon Aumer, said the butcher shop in Scottdale soon branched out to the sausage wagons.

The sausage wagons, a popular attraction at area fairs and events, were the original stepping stone to launch the restaurant.

"This had been Ted's dream forever," Shannon Aumer said.

The new Aumer's has settled on a large area off Mt. Pleasant Road in East Huntingdon, the site of the former Jimmy Paul's restaurant, which was destroyed by fire several years ago.

"This is a good site, a good location," Ted Aumer said. "It's in the Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale areas, and that is where we have received a lot of our support over the years."

The restaurant offers a limited menu consisting of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. The menu will expand once the facility is established.

Aumer's sausage will be a staple on a menu that will also offer wing selections. The family is planning to have specialty nights that feature different cuisines, such as Greek and seafood.

High ceilings and large windows grace a large part of the restaurant that features a dining area and a bar area with seating, perfect for a meal or to watch a favorite game.

"We are a sports family," Shannon Aumer said. "It just seemed like a natural direction for us to take."

The restaurant features large-screen televisions while also promoting a family atmosphere.

"You can come and watch a game and have a sandwich and a Pepsi or sit and have a beer," Shannon Aumer said. 'We want it to be for everyone, and we want it to be comfortable."

The restaurant is open seven days a week. It opens at 11 a.m.

"The family tradition has always been quality food," Shannon Aumer said. "And we will have that all in a new atmosphere. It's a brand new atmosphere in a brand new building and we are very excited to be here. The communities of Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale have always been good to us."

"We just hope that everyone comes out to check us out and have some great food," Ted Aumer said.

Everything offered on the menu is also available for take out.
