Award-winning children's book author Helen Cresswell has died of cancer in Eakring, England, at age 71.
The author of "Lizzie Dripping" and more than 100 other children's books died at her home Monday night, the BBC reported Tuesday.
Cresswell won the Phoenix Award in 1989 for "The Night Watchmen" and four of her other titles were runners-up for the Carnegie Medal. She was honored with a Bafta Children's Writers' Award in 2000.
Among her many other titles were "Moondial," "The Bongleweed" and "The Piemakers."
She also wrote screenplays for several TV series, including "The Five Children and It," "The Secret World of Polly Flint" and "The Haunted School."
Cresswell is survived by two daughters, Caroline and Candida Rowe.
