Last Friday, Lernerville canceled due to bad weather. Motordrome canceled due to bad weather. Williams Grove canceled due to, yes, bad weather. It didn’t matter where you were in the state of Pennsylvania, the weather was bad. Saturday night, with temperatures just above freezing and snowflakes in the air, PPMS did race. Defending champion Al Atallah led the first three laps of the late model feature before sixth-starting Doug Drown took the point. Others dueling behind him included Ben Miley, Mike Johnson and Keith Barbara, with Lynn Geisler moving into second by the halfway point. With four laps to go, Geisler got alongside of Drown racing into Turn 3, but Drown was up to the challenge and held onto first through some late race cautions for his first win at “Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile.” Other division winners of the night were Scott Gunn of West Mifflin, Advance Auto Parts Limited Lates; Wayne Tessean, 2002 track champion of Austintown, Ohio, in the e-mods; Craig Kamicker of Hopewell, pure stocks; and Bill Robertson of Pittsburgh, amateur strictly stocks. At Hagerstown, Gary Stuhler won his second of the young season. Charlie Shaffer also won a late model feature there this year.
