A suspicious hand bag left outside a major bank in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, Monday caused panic among the population who feared a bomb attack.

Security sources said police cordoned off the street outside the Arab bank in central Sanaa, after it was alerted that a bomb might be concealed in the suspicious bag.

They said bomb experts were rushed to the scene to check the bag.

Witnesses said the policemen kept the curious onlookers at a distance then opened fire at the bag, and when it did not explode they checked the inside where they found an old, worn shoe.
