Iraqi police have said a 16th person died as a result of two explosions in Baghdad Sunday, leaving at least 57 others injured, CNN reported.

The explosions took place near a Shiite mosque and a busy market in Baghdad's al-Shu'lah neighborhood, police said.

Eyewitnesses said blood and body parts littered the street.

Black smoke was seen rising above the area, where a number of cars were burned in the densely populated district.

Earlier in the day, eight people were killed and at least 20 others injured in a twin suicide bomb attack on a police station in Tikrit, 124 miles north of Baghdad.
