A Wisconsin bank robber held on $1 million bond says he thought a life of crime would be easier based on a television feature about a successful bank robber. Nicolas Navarette allegedly held up a Chase Bank branch in Waukesha Friday morning wearing his wife’s red wig. Unfortunately a teller recognized him as a regular bank customer despite the disguise. He left the bank on foot with the cash and was spotted by police because he had parked a block away. Navarette, 42, was arrested after a chase during which he fired nearly a dozen shots that injured no one. He said he got the idea for the robbery after watching a TV account of a man who successfully held up 40 banks. Navarette was charged with armed robbery, attempted first-degree homicide, reckless endangerment and fleeing and held on $1 million bond. © Copyright 2006 by United Press International
