In honor of his upcoming "Barney Live!" show this weekend, the performer who plays the beloved Barney onstage conducted his interview in character.

"It's a great adventure ... we go on a super-dee-duper adventure," Barney says of the children's play. "It really is a great show -- on your mark, get set, let's go! Huh huh huh."

Barney's famous goofy chuckle serves as punctuation marks throughout the interview, as the jolly purple dinosaur enthusiastically describes his show -- "Barney Live! The Let's Go Tour" -- which will play at the Benedum this weekend.

In the show, Barney's sidekicks -- B.J. and Baby Bop, whom Barney thinks he met sometime during the Jurassic era -- break their favorite toys. Barney then takes them to a magical workshop where the kid dinos find new friends and some special toys.

"There's an out-of-this-world robot -- and oh! One of my favorites -- a blue jay who sings the blues!" Barney says.

By using their imaginations- - a key theme in all Barney shows -- the dinosaurs are able to repair the broken toys. But being a handy dinosaur is not Barney's main intention in the show. He wants to do what he does best: sing and dance, hang out with his friends and meet new friends.

"There's nothing better than being with your friends, right?" Barney says. "I have lots of friends, and I'm making new friends every day. That's one of the best things about being me."

Kids who come to the show can get as lively as they want, because they'll be singing and dancing along with Barney, who says the live show will have some new songs.

"I just can't wait to see them," he says. "Oh, and bring a smile -- because you'll be using it a lot!"

Don't forget, Barney says he loves you.

"Love is very important," he says. "That's why I sing, 'I love you, you love me' -- you know the words."
