After rolling to a 61-point win over Winchester Thurston in their first meeting, Monessen’s Lady Greyhounds weren’t expected to have much of a problem in the Class A Sec. 3 rematch at home Monday.

Monessen didn’t.

With Nicole Whitlock (20) and Charel Allen (19) combining for 39 points, the Lady Greyhounds spanked Win-chester Thurston, 64-21.

Monessen (18-3, 9-2) coasted after taking a 23-2 first quarter lead.

Allen also had 10 rebounds and 10 steals.

Whitlock, meanwhile, is averaging 18 points in the Lady Greyhounds’ last four games.

“She’s really stepped it up,” said Monessen coach Major Corley.

Cassandra Tyree also hit double figures with 11 points and contributed 10 rebounds.

Monessen goes to Our Lady of Sacred Heart Thursday.

In Class AAA’s Sec. 3, winless Belle Vernon Area and Yough were losers.

The Lady Leps went down to second place Mt. Pleasant, 66-38, to fall to 0-19 including 0-11 in the section.

Sara Jackson and Maggie Monahan both scored nine points for the Lady Leps.

BVA senior Rachael Konsugar suffered a broken nose in the defeat.

Jessica Kovacs led Mt. Pleasant (11-7, 8-2) with 19 points.

The Lady Vikings led 13-4 after eight minutes and 32-15 at halftime.

BVA is home with front-running Derry Thursday.

Yough dropped its third straight at McGuffey, 54-32.

Jennie Cochenour had a game-high 15 points for the Lady Cougars (7-14, 4-7).

Laramey Dille led McGuffey (7-13, 3-8), which snapped a four-game losing skid.

Yough visits Mt. Pleasant Thursday.

In Class AAA’s Sec. 4, Elizabeth Forward bowed at home to Keystone Oaks, 53-48.

Allison Liptak (18) and Christine Grebner (16) looked best for the Lady Warriors (11-10, 7-4), who won at Keystone Oaks earlier in the season.

Mame Brumbaugh was high for the Lady Eagles (15-6, 6-5) with 15 points.

Elizabeth visits front-running North Catholic Thursday.

In Class AA’s Sec. 5, Frazier and Bentworth were both losers at home.

Frazier lost to Chartiers-Houston, 62-40, with Bent-worth bowing to Carmichaels, 50-20.

Rachael Hughes had 19 points for the Lady Commodores (8-12, 3-8).

Emily Briggs poured in 27 points for the Lady Bucs (15-4, 8-3).

Bentworth (1-18, 1-10) suffered its 13th straight defeat to the Lady Mikes.

In Class A’s Sec. 2, California downed Jefferson-Morgan, 44-35, to snap a four-game losing skid.

Chelsey Gillen (14) and Katey Doman (10) looked best for the Lady Trojans (6-13, 2-5), who received a lift from the appearance of senior Lindsey Popelas in California’s home finale.

Popelas, who’s been sidelined with non-Hodgkins lymphona, played three quarters. She had three rebounds and blocked two shots.

Shanna Yourchik had 26 points for the Lady Rockets.

California resumes Thursday at Clairton.
