Bassmaster sponsors to visit city
The people who will be fishing in the Bassmaster Classic won’t be visiting Pittsburgh until close to the time of the July 29-31 event.
The people sponsoring the Classic, though, will be here this week.
ESPN and BASS, together with the local organizing committee that convinced them to hold the Classic in Pittsburgh, will be giving the tournament’s national sponsors a tour of the city and its facilities Monday and Tuesday.
Seventeen representatives of companies including CITGO Petroleum Corp., Toyota, Busch Beer, Purolator, Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Berkley, Lowrance Electronics, MotorGuide, Bass Pro Shops and Cialis will see Mellon Arena, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Point State Park and the 18th Street boat launch. Seven ESPN representatives are also scheduled make the trip.
“That’s the primary goal of the tour this time, to give the national sponsors a tour of Pittsburgh and let them see the city and where all of the activities will take place,” said Donna Bour, managing director of the Pittsburgh Classic’s local organizing committee.
In addition, Bour will take Stacey Twiggs, youth manager for BASS, on a visit to Kittanning, site of the Bassmaster junior championship.
