The BBC plans to make 20 more radio shows available as podcasts, downloadable onto digital music players such as Apple's iPod.
It said it also plans to extend what it called highly successful trial podcasts of its shows Radio Five Fighting Talk and Radio 4 In Our Time.
"These technologies can transform the value we deliver to audiences and make our programs more accessible for both new and existing audiences," said Simon Nelson, controller of BBC Radio and Music Interactive.
During the first four months of the trial, the podcasts were downloaded as MP3 files 270,000 times.
