China’s Beijing Capital International Airport has announced plans to build the country’s largest and most automated baggage processing system. The $200 million project, adopted as part of the country’s expansion plan for the 2008 Olympics, is scheduled for completion Dec. 31, 2007, reported Xinhua, china’s official government-run news agency. The system is designed to put baggage through five rounds of safety checks, but still make it through 27,200 pieces of luggage per hour at the newly build T3A tower. A special passenger transportation system with a rush-hour capacity of transporting 4,100 passengers per hour has also been planned for simultaneous construction. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
