The fourth annual Believe in Connellsville Christmas Decorating Contest has begun.
Businesses are asked to decorate for the holidays.
Judging will take place Dec. 11.
Winners will be chosen for best use of color, most illumination and best theme.
“We just want people to believe in our town,” said Judy Keller, a member of the committee that started the contest almost four years ago. “There are so many great things about it (Connellsville).”
Keller said there have been businesses in Connellsville which have always decorated for the holidays.
“But I really think it took off more,” Keller said about the evolution of the contest. “I think people are just excited.”
Contest winners will be notified as soon as possible, according to Keller.
If residents have not had the time in the past to walk through the business district on both the East Side and West Side, they should now, Keller said. They will be pleasantly surprised at the result of the effort put into the decorations, she said.
“Everyone does a great job, and it definitely makes the city shine for the Christmas season,” said Keller. “I remember one evening last December being in the area of the Aaron's Building and saw families standing on the sidewalk admiring the decorations in the windows of Mr. (Terry) Shallenberger's building. No need to drive to Pittsburgh when we have great store fronts that are aglow with lights and wonderful decorations.”
“This year it is even more exciting because the Friends of the Library are doing a fundraiser and providing luminaries to light up the entire city, including the parade (Christmas) route,” Keller said.
Winners last year were Donna Evans Realty for “Most Colorful,” the Aaron's Building for “Best Theme,” The Health Insurance Store for “Most Illuminated,” and DeMuth Florist was “Santa's Choice.”
Believe in Connellsville is grateful for the participation.
Winners will be featured in the Daily Courier.
