Bethel man survives 4th episode

Bethel Township native Chet Welch survived elimination Thursday night in the fourth episode of "Survivor: Micronesia -- Fans vs. Favorites."

After sitting out the rewards challenge and losing the second challenge that awards the winning tribe immunity, he was two votes away from having to snuff out his torch.

Welch began the competition, which began airing Feb. 7, against 19 other castaways and play for a chance to be named "Sole Survivor" and win $1 million.

Welch was selected from 96,000 applicants to become of the the 10 "fans" competiting against 10 people who had appeared on previous years of "Survivor."

Welch arrived in Palau a week prior to the start of filming on Oct. 29 and returned home after the game was over on Dec. 6.

Welch is required not to reveal how he or any other contestant did.
