I don't doubt that anti-gay marriage letter writer Rudy Gagliardi may “hate the sin, but love the sinner” (VND, March 5) when it comes to homosexuality. But what his position amounts to relegates same-sex individuals to second-class citizens based upon an exclusively religious view of morality.
If Mr. Gagliardi wanted to denounce same-sex marriage and his church did not perform same-sex matrimonial ceremonies, there would be no issue.
However, when Mr. Gagliardi and his ilk seek to have their position metastasize from their private churches to official government policy, it is a harbinger of theocracy.
