In Ellen M. Shar's letter "Countering bias?" (May 25 and TribLIVE.com), it appears there is deep concern about some of the government programs if Mitt Romney is elected president. The letter noted that cuts would be made in "education, Medicaid, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, etc."
I am not as concerned about having to make changes and some cuts as I am about the bankruptcy of our country.
The current deficit (spending exceeding income) is at approximately $5 trillion and growing. If the deficit continues to grow at the rate established by the current administration, there will be no money for any of those programs and they will have to be eliminated along with Social Security and Medicare. I know some would say we can print more money, but printing money leads to inflation and inflation will make the money we have worth less.
Is increased debt and inflation with bankruptcy what America wants? All the other items listed in the letter will also be a problem under the extension of the spending of the current administration. (Refer to what happened in Greece.)
