Armed robbery
State police at Belle Vernon are seeking a white man in his early 20s who held up the Big Barn store in Perry Township Friday afternoon.
Police report that the suspect entered the Big Barn store, located on Route 51, between 1:40 and 1:45 p.m. Friday. Once inside, the suspect displayed a firearm to the employee behind the counter. The suspect demanded money and the female cashier complied with his demand, police report.
The robber left the store and fled on foot in a southbound direction on Route 51. He fled towards the direction of the four-way intersection/traffic light at Star Junction. Police said the suspect ran approximately 75 to 100 yards on Route 51 and into a wooded area to the east of Route 51.
Police said the suspect is approximately 6 feet tall with short, blond or brown hair. He wore baggy pants, a long-sleeved, dark-colored shirt, and a red and white bandana on his head. He was armed with an unknown type of firearm.
Police ask that anyone who may have been traveling along Route 51 in Perry Township who may have seen the suspect call the state police barracks at 724-929-6262.

PennDOT District 12 wants to alert motorists that Crawford Avenue (Route 1051) in the city of Connellsville will be closed and a detour will be in place until Nov. 8, weather permitting. The limits of this project will be between Snyder Street (Route 711) and Breakneck Road (Route 1051).
The detour will utilize Route 711, Locust Street (Township Road 692), Falcon Drive (Township Road 499), and Breakneck Road (Route 1051).
The detour is in place for the removal and replacement of pavement and subbase and drainage improvements.
Utility companies will be working on the first three days that the road will be closed. This will give them the opportunity to relocate service lines in advance of the contractor's work. Contractors started removing roadway on Aug. 29.
