MERIDEN, England -- Thomas Bjorn won the British Masters on Sunday with a par on the second playoff hole after finishing in a three-way tie with Brian Davis and David Howell.
Bjorn eagled the 17th hole of the final round to shoot a 4-under-par 68, while Davis and Howell shot 69s. Howell made a bogey on the last hole when he could have won with a par.
In the playoff on the 211-yard 18th, Davis and Howell both missed the green. Davis missed an 8-foot par putt and was eliminated while Howell holed from the same distance. Bjorn two-putted from 15 feet.
Howell and Bjorn played the same hole again, and Howell sent his tee shot into the bunker. He blasted out to within 12 feet but missed while Bjorn two-putted from 25 feet.
"Winning on British soil is wonderful because all of my worst letdowns have been on British soil," Bjorn said.
Last year, the Dane quit the European Open in Ireland to battle "inner demons." His victory yesterday was his eighth on the European Tour and first since the 2002 BMW International.
Michael Campbell of New Zealand blew his three stroke overnight with a 1-over 73, finishing one shot behind.
"It was there for the taking. I tried to hole a few putts and they slipped by. I got frustrated," Campbell said.
Darren Clarke shot a 6-under 30 on the front nine, highlighted by a double eagle at the 563-yard third where he holed his 5-iron from 215 yards. He finished with a 67 for a share of eighth.
European Ryder Cup player Ian Poulter, who shares the course record of 63, carded a bogey-free 64 and finished in a tie for 16th. Colin Montgomerie shot a 69 to finish in a tie for 24th.
