British Prime Minister Tony Blair renewed his attack on Conservative spending “cuts” amid accusations he is misrepresenting the facts. Blair admitted Thursday a new campaign poster stating “Warning: The Tories will cut $67 billion from public services” referred to “a cut over Labor’s plans” in 2011-2012. But speaking at the Welsh Labor Conference in Cardiff Friday, Blair repeated his claim, saying the Tories would spend $96 million less in each constituency. The Tory plans would have “devastating consequences” for public services, he said. His accusations have led to a war of words between the two parties. Blair conceded the Tories were planning smaller spending increases than Labor, but insists that would lead to a cut in services. The Tory proposals were the equivalent of sacking every doctor and teacher in Britain, he claimed, while unveiling the new poster. Tory Co-Chairman Liam Fox said: “We have said we will be spending more, year on year over and above inflation. “And to call that a cut is at best a misrepresentation, at worst a downright lie.” © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
