British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s grandmother reportedly was a graffiti vandal who daubed Communist slogans on walls in the slums of Glasgow, Scotland. The Mirror reports the revelation by a friend of the late Mary Blair gives the lie to beliefs by the prime minister that past generations of his family never would have behaved badly. “I’m sure Mary would have been laughing her head off at her grandson’s description of Govan as an idyllic community where everyone respected each other and the law,” former neighbor Alex Morrison, 86, told the Mirror. Last week in Swindon, Blair rebuked violent youths, saying his father, Leo, grew up poor but “people behaved more respectfully to one another.” © Copyright 2006 by United Press International
