Fashion houses have been playing "how low can you go" with blue jean waistlines in recent years, but now classic styles appear to be on the rise.

The low waistlines and plagues that come with them -- plumber's butt, peek-a-boo panties, tummy rolls and bikini waxes -- are on the way out, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"People are coming in and saying, 'I don't want to be so exposed,'" New York boutique owner Caroline Roberts told the newspaper.

Lucky, Salt Works, Seven for all Mankind, Blue Cult and Citizens of Humanity have pulled the waist up on their fall jeans lines by 8 or 9 inches, the Post said.

"We're definitely closing up the butt cleavage a bit more these days," said Jeanne Sottile, vice president of contemporary sportswear at Bloomingdale's.
