Regarding the news story “Baldwin-Whitehall debuts iPad program” : As a parent of children with learning difficulties, I support the use of iPads in the classroom.
The addition of iPads to education is a new and exciting way for children and parents to learn. I wish all schools would start implementing modern technology into the curriculum.
My daughter did not have that opportunity when she was in high school, and my son, who is in his junior year, also does not. Yes, their school does provide iPads to sign out and use, but they are not part of the everyday curriculum and there are not enough to go around.
Both of my children learn far more with interactive, hands-on teaching. According to Apple, the iPad can be customized to each student's needs because each student is unique and learns differently. The students do not just watch, listen, or read with the iPad — they create with it.
The students in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District are excited about learning this way, as other children in other districts would be. I think today's education needs to evolve, utilizing more modern technology, and all schools should implement this. After all, our children are our future.
