Borough on the map with Interstate signs
After years of working to let the outside world know where Seven Fields is, the borough's name finally is on Interstate 79.
New signs indicating that Seven Fields sits off Exit 78 in Butler County went up late last month. Borough Manager Tom Smith said officials for years had lobbied PennDOT to put up the signs recognizing the 1-square mile community, whose 2002 population was estimated at 2,334.
"We are one of the fastest growing communities," Smith said. "And we have a lot of businesses, so of course we want to bring people here to spend money."
In the past, borough officials waged a successful campaign to have the Mars Post Office recognize Seven Fields as a mailing address. Officials also pushed PennDOT to put a sign on Route 228 that directed motorists to the borough. PennDOT placed that sign on the road when crews widened the bridge several year ago.
"For goodness' sake, Seven Fields has arrived," Smith said. "We want people to know that."
