An area of Bosnia that’s ethnically split between Muslims, Croats and Serbs is erecting a statue in honor of Kung-Fu legend Bruce Lee, an ethnic Croat. The monument in Mostar is intended to remind the war torn city’s residents of Lee’s “loyalty, friendship, skill and justice,” said Veselin Gatalo, a Bosnian writer who came up with the idea for the statue, the BBC said Thursday. “Lee is a true international hero and is a hero to all ethnicities in Bosnia and that’s why we picked him,” Gatalo said. Gatalo hopes the statue will be ready by November and plans to invite Lee’s wife, Linda Lee, to the opening ceremony. Lee made four martial arts films in 1972 and 1973 before he died at age 32 from swelling on the brain. © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
