Brazil decided Friday to purchase 12 used fighter jets from France in an effort to upgrade its aging air force in the short term.

The Dassault Aviation SA-built fighter jets will replace Brazil's Mirage jets, Agencia Estado news agency reported. Brazilian officials did not say how much they paid for the planes, however did mention they were in the market for new ones later this decade.

The purchase came during Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's visit to France where is working to bolster economic ties between the nations and has condemned EU farm subsidies.
