Customized independent learning experiences also are developed for each fellow.
YMCA is awarded grant for $5,000
The Sewickley Valley YMCA was awarded a $5,000 grant from the William V. and Catherine A. McKinney Charitable Foundation.
The foundation provides support to organizations that focus on the elderly, disadvantaged youth, the disabled and the arts.
The grant will allow the YMCA’s Children’s Center for Creative Learning to offer financial aid to preschoolers whose families cannot afford to send them to a preschool program.
The YMCA’s Children’s Center for Creative Learning is located in Edgeworth Elementary School in Sewickley.
The center was established in 1998 after it was determined that 20 percent of kindergarten students in the area had no preschool experience and that 19 percent of the school district population was financially distressed.
