To the Editor: Giant Eagle and Wal-mart are always boasting about their $4 prescription plan. Generic drugs are not that expensive to begin with, so they are not giving you very much in the way of savings each months. I suggest Giant Eagle and Wal-Mart take the lead and start lowering the prices on brand-name prescriptions. Brand-name prescriptions that cost $400 to $500 a month have to have a high rate of profit to them. If they really want to help people a little, try lowering brand-name drugs. I know of a case where a man had to get 10 pills that cost $1,200 at Giant Eagle. He had a co-payment of more than $600. This is ridiculous — $120 a day for 10 days. My doctor told me there is a cancer pill that costs $10,000 a month. How many people would be able to afford that⢠You would just have to die! Do you see why we have such a high cost for medical care in this country? Kay Zaydel Sr. Carroll Township
