A Nigerian woman will appear in a London court this week to face charges of trying to import more than 230 pounds of snails into England, Sky News reported.

Customs officers stopped Surat Oluyemisi Anibaba at Heathrow Airport last Thursday after she arrived on a flight from Lagos.

Airport spokesman Bob Gaiger said the haul of de-shelled and cooked snails was a record.

"Occasionally we get smaller amounts of snails coming through from Africa," he said. "But this was quite surprising -- it was the largest amount we've had at Heathrow."

If Anibaba is convicted of importing prohibited foodstuffs, she could face a maximum two years in prison and a $9,500 fine.
