Veteran British bluesman John Mayall says his recent royal honor is proof that somebody's been paying attention.
"It's a great honor to be recognized for my services in music from the Queen of England," says Mayall, who received an Order of the British Empire honor from Queen Elizabeth II, along with Led Zeppelin founder Jimmy Page and Ultravox's Midge Ure. "Never having been really close to getting a Grammy or a mention in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or any other kind of music award, to have something come from this source is pretty spectacular."
Mayall, who now resides in California, has led his Bluesbreakers bands since the early '60s, and its ranks have included Eric Clapton, future Rolling Stone Mick Taylor and the founding members of Fleetwood Mac.
Mayall's latest incarnation of the band recently released a new album, "Road Dogs."
