Since self-storage units first opened in Britain 12 years ago, many people are using them more as a spare room and not just for storage. The cheap units, costing about $125 a month, not only serve as extra storage space, but some warehouse managers say they spotted desperate couples using some units to conduct illicit affairs, the Sunday Telegraph reported. A soccer team uses one of the units as its gym, a lawyer rents his self-storage unit to practice the flute during his lunch hour and one man likes to spend time alone with the ashes of his dead mother in another unit. © Copyright 2006 by United Press International
