Burke, Robertson lift Edinboro over Kutztown
Andre Burke rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown, and Kody Robertson hit three field goals to lift Edinboro to a 23-14 victory over host Kutztown on Saturday.
Burke scored on a 2-yard run with 4 minutes, 22 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory for Edinboro (7-2), which is vying for its second-consecutive NCAA Division II playoff berth. Edinboro is currently No. 6 in the Northeast Region, and the top six teams in the region make the playoffs.
Robertson kicked field goals of 23, 29 and 25 yards in each of the first three quarters.
“We moved the ball really well, but we were getting threes instead of sevens,” Edinboro coach Lou Tepper said.
Jeremy Wesley caught a 57-yard scoring pass from Jeremy Copeland to put Kutztown (3-6) on the board in the first quarter on its homecoming day.
“I’m tired of playing homecoming games,” Tepper said. “At least now, we’re 4-1 in them, but you always get the best effort out of the other teams.”
Chris Avery answered with a 31-yard interception return for Edinboro, but James Brooks had a 93-yard kickoff return to put Kutztown up 14-7 only 4:14 into the game.
Justin Bouch completed 16 of 26 passes for 191 yards for Edinboro. Copeland was 13 of 25 for 182 yards but was intercepted four times.
