Burrell’s Paulice blanks Ford City

Starter Jackie Paulice allowed only one hit to improve to 8-0 on the season as Burrell blanked Ford City 15-0 in a five-inning Section 6-AA contest Friday.

Burrell (8-0, 7-0) was led offensively by Kristen Valchar who homered and doubled. Teammate Kayla Hornack tripled, and Kara Wojacik and Mary Beth Thomas each had a double.

Cara Jrafton took the loss for Ford City (2-6, 2-4).

  • Greensburg Salem 3, Penn-Trafford 2, 8 inn. - Greensburg Salem (3-5, 3-4) rallied for a run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Penn-Trafford in a Section 1-AAA contest. Megan Burd picked up her third win of the season for the Golden Lions.

  • Mt. Pleasant 14, Charleroi 8 - Mt. Pleasant pitcher Ashley Beanner smacked two doubles to lead Mt. Pleasant to a Section 1-AAA victory. The Vikings overcame an 8-1 Charleroi lead after four innings.

  • Hempfield Area 3, Greater Latrobe 2 - Tina Skelly held Greater Latrobe scoreless over the final four innings to preserve the win for Hempfield in a Section 1-AAA contest. All of the runs were scored in the third inning.

  • Leechburg 11, Jeannette 1 (Game 1); Leechburg 13, Jeannette 0 (Game 2) - Leechburg swept a Section 7-A doubleheader from Jeannette. In the first game, Leechburg broke open a 3-0 lead after three innings by scoring eight runs in the final three frames. In the second game, Leechburg pitcher Jenna Kulick shut out the Jayhawks and also hit a double and a home run in the win. Leechburg led 6-0 after the first inning.

  • Greensburg Central Catholic 11, West Shamokin 1 (6 inn.) - Anna Gentile picked up the win as the Centurions (6-5, 3-1) defeated West Shamokin (5-6, 3-2) in a Section 7-A match-up. Nettie Hope tripled for the Centurions while teammate Nicole Bautista added a double.

    BASEBALL
  • Frazier 4, Bentworth 1 - Adam Souply threw a one-hitter while striking out four batters in Frazier's Section 7-A victory over Bentworth. Souply and Matt Kibe also hit triples for the Commodores (4-5, 3-3).

    BOYS TENNIS
    The WPIAL section doubles crowed their champions yesterday, with the top three teams advancing to the WPIAL doubles championship May 3-4 at North Park.

    Tyler Weisel and Corey Sacca of Greater Latrobe took the Section 1-AAA title with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bill Celtnieks and Josh Miller of Indiana.

    Andy Gall and Justin Repasky of Greensburg Central Catholic grabbed the Section 1-AA crown with a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Benji Crable and Mark Gates of Brownsville.
