Butler County commissioners are scheduled to vote Feb. 9 on whether to participate in a $35 million loan guarantee program with five other counties to help the Reading-based Boscov's department store chain as it exits from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the company said Thursday. The guarantees are part of a state package announced late last year. Snyder County earlier rejected the plan, but Lebanon, Schuylkill, Lackawanna, Blair and Cambria counties approved it. Some Butler officials have objected, but the board hasn't voted. The counties were asked to pledge future federal grant money as collateral for the loan.
